How to Find a Reliable Supplier in China (2026 Guide)
Every day, buyers lose money to fake suppliers in China. They pay deposits that disappear. They receive samples that don't match production. They open containers full of junk.
The problem isn't China β it's that most buyers don't know how to verify a supplier properly. After 20 years on the ground in Guangzhou, here's our step-by-step method.
1. Start with the Business License (θ₯δΈζ§η §)
Every legitimate Chinese factory has a business license. Ask for a copy. Then verify it on the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System β the government's official database. Check:
- Is the company still active?
- Does the registered business scope match what they claim to make?
- Is the registered capital reasonable for the size they claim?
A factory claiming 500 employees but showing $10,000 registered capital? That's a red flag.
2. Verify Their Export License
Not every company with a business license can export. They need an export license from MOFCOM. Without it, they're selling domestically β and your goods will get stuck at customs.
3. Demand a Factory Visit (or Send Someone)
This is the single most important step. You must see the production line. Photos and videos can be faked β we've seen suppliers rent a factory floor for an afternoon just to film a video.
If you can't visit yourself, hire a sourcing agent who will go there physically. We visit factories in person, inspect the production line, and verify everything is real before you send a single dollar.
4. Check for Certifications
Depending on your product, the factory should have relevant certifications: ISO 9001 for quality management, CE for Europe, FDA for US food/medical products, RoHS for electronics. Ask for the actual certificate β not a photo, the document with the registration number you can verify.
5. Start with a Small Trial Order
Never place a $50,000 order with a new supplier. Start with $500-$2,000. Test their communication, their quality, their delivery time. A good supplier treats a small order seriously. A bad one disappears after the deposit.
6. Use a Sourcing Agent
A local sourcing agent does all of this for you. We verify the license, visit the factory, negotiate the price in Chinese, inspect the goods before shipment, and handle shipping. You pay for products β we handle the risk.
Bottom line: Finding a reliable supplier in China isn't about luck. It's about verification. Do these 6 steps β or hire someone who will β and you'll never lose money to a fake supplier again.
