The 121st Canton Fair opened April 15, 2017 with renewed energy. International buyer registration was up 6% over the autumn 2016 session. Here's what we observed across the three phases.

Phase 1: Electronics & Machinery (April 15-19)

Smart home devices dominated. Voice-controlled assistants, WiFi-enabled appliances, and home security systems from Shenzhen factories filled Hall 3.2. VR headsets appeared at 40+ booths โ€” prices falling fast as components mature.

Solar energy products showed surprising strength. Portable solar panels, solar chargers, and small-scale solar generators attracted strong interest from African and Middle Eastern buyers.

Phase 2: Consumer Goods (April 23-27)

Kitchenware remains the backbone. Ceramic dinner sets from Chaozhou, stainless steel cookware from Yongkang, glassware from Shanxi. European buyers focused on design, Middle Eastern buyers on luxury packaging.

Phase 3: Textiles & Health (May 1-5)

Sportswear and athleisure dominated Phase 3. Factories from Fujian and Zhejiang offered competitive pricing on technical fabrics. Medical supplies โ€” bandages, scrubs, disposable equipment โ€” saw increased interest from Latin American buyers.
